October at Bright Beginnings
October at Bright Beginnings
Hi everyone, and welcome to another month at Bright Beginnings Early Childhood Development Center! September felt like a blur, but it was filled with so much learning, laughter, and growth. Now we are moving into October, and we are excited to share all of the wonderful things planned for our students. This month will be full of hands-on learning, creativity, and opportunities for both fun and discovery.
Our curriculum this month is designed to engage the whole child—mind, body, and heart. Each theme will bring with it developmentally appropriate art projects, fine motor practice, gross motor activities, and opportunities to build important skills in a way that feels like play. We will also continue to explore our brand-new STEM program, which was created by our very own Mr. Pasquier. This program helps children build curiosity, problem-solving skills, and confidence in early technology, all while staying true to the joyful, play-based approach that defines us at Bright Beginnings.
Weekly Curriculum Themes
Native Americans (October 3–7)
We begin the month by learning about Native Americans, focusing on respect for cultures, traditions, and history. There are 22 recognized tribes in Arizona. Children will explore age-appropriate activities such as creating simple bead patterns, weaving with paper or yarn, and making handprint art inspired by Native traditions. These activities strengthen fine motor skills while also opening conversations about community and storytelling. Gross motor fun might include movement games that encourage rhythm and cooperation. Through these activities, children learn not just about history, but also about working together and appreciating diversity.
Military (October 10–14)
Next, we shift to honoring the Military. This theme introduces children to the idea of service, responsibility, and gratitude. The students might create thank you cards for veterans, design paper airplanes to practice fine motor folding skills, or explore the concept of teamwork through group building activities. For gross motor play, children could enjoy relay-style games that emphasize following directions and working as a team. This week encourages respect for helpers in our community while building important skills in listening and cooperation.
Camping (October 17–21)
Who doesn’t love the idea of camping? This week, we will bring the outdoors inside. Children may create paper lanterns or paint nature-inspired art. They might build campfires from construction paper and tissue paper or even set up pretend tents in dramatic play areas. These activities build creativity, problem-solving, and social skills as children collaborate in their imaginative play. We will also get moving with camping-themed obstacle courses, where students can climb over logs, crawl through tunnels, and practice coordination. Songs and stories around the campfire will round out this adventurous theme, encouraging language development and social bonding.
Thanksgiving (October 24–28)
We will finish the month with Thanksgiving, focusing on gratitude, family, and togetherness. Art projects might include making handprint turkeys, creating placemats with patterns, or decorating gratitude trees. Fine motor activities could involve practicing cutting skills to create fall leaves or stringing beads in warm autumn colors. Gross motor play might include harvest-inspired games like pumpkin roll races. As part of STEM, children could even explore simple cooking projects, like mixing ingredients for a pretend feast. This week is all about building empathy, expressing thanks, and celebrating the joy of community.
Spirit Week
We also have Spirit Week coming soon. While we will share the full schedule in our newsletter, you can expect a week filled with fun dress-up days, creative classroom activities, and lots of laughter. Spirit Week is a wonderful way for children to feel connected to their school community and show off their personalities. Stay tuned for all the details—we promise it will be a week to remember.
STEM Spotlight with Mr. Pasquier
We are especially proud to highlight our new STEM program, designed by Bright Beginnings’ very own Mr. Pasquier. STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, might sound big for preschool, but here it is all about sparking curiosity and encouraging children to ask questions, try new things, and explore the world around them.
Some examples you might see this month include science activities like observing leaves change color and experimenting with mixing paint to create fall shades. In technology, children may use simple tools or child-friendly apps to learn about shapes, colors, or patterns. For engineering, the children might build camping tents with blocks or practice balance with different stacking challenges. Math exploration may include sorting items by size or counting harvest vegetables in pretend play.
Celebrating October Birthdays
Of course, no month would be complete without celebrating our friends. This October, we are excited to wish a very Happy Birthday to Everett, Zahra, LailahRose, Dillan, Zaedyn, Hank, John, Zaden, Jenesis, Kamren, Luke, and Xavier. We are so glad to celebrate each of you this month.
Looking Ahead
At Bright Beginnings, every month is about more than just themes and activities—it is about creating experiences that help children grow in confidence, creativity, and kindness. October is a time of change, with leaves falling and cooler weather settling in, and it is also a season for gratitude, community, and celebration.
We are thankful to partner with families and to provide a space where children can learn, laugh, and discover new things every day. From art projects and outdoor play to STEM activities and story time, everything we do is built around nurturing the whole child in a developmentally appropriate way.
As always, thank you for being part of the Bright Beginnings family. We cannot wait to share all of these moments with you and your children this October. Together, we will make it a month filled with creativity, discovery, and joy.
